The Chatters Solution |
Hello there. My name is ChatBob and I want to tell you why I think Chatters offers such a great solution for those families wanting to enjoy chat "safely" on the Internet's World Wide Web. What brought us to create this new "Family Friendly" chat community? Simply put, we decided it was time for someone to develop a chat site that really can be depended upon to provide a safer, more secure, and friendlier chat environment. Even if, and we know this cuts against the grain of all current thinking, the only way to make this idea work is to charge a nominal annual membership fee of $3.65. What moved us toward this decision was witnessing one of our first major chat sites evolve from a clean, cheerful, and friendly place into a disturbed one, corrupted by clicks of hackers and incorrigibles. These troublemakers took all the enjoyment out of chatting for the vast majority of others who want to enjoy their chat experience. Worst yet, it scared us to think of the wild and dangerous characters our kids might be meeting in these chat room jungles. Of greatest concern to us at Chatters is chat room safety, especially when it comes to our young chatters. Recent data indicates there are millions of teens and young children accessing the Internet daily. To be sure, chat has become one of the most popular activities. Unfortunately, however, most chat communities do not implement serious security policies and clearly defined boundaries of chat room behavior. As a result, the typical chat community on the net soon deteriorates into a playground full of ugly behavior and dangerous liasons. At Chatters we believe an Internet chat service can strive to become a clean, safe, and secure chat environment for all family members. To get there, however, all of the chat community's user identities need to be known to the chat site's administrator. That is the only way we know to create accountability. Because they want to escape accountability, the greatest majority of incorrigibles and predators run from those web sites that require positive identification. When they "know you know who they are," they quickly move elsewhere. To get a positive user identification on the Internet is not easy. People can fill out a registration form and falsify everything on it if they so desire. And if that person's real identity is not known, they are free to exert their damage with little risk of being caught. If there is no accountability, there is no responsibility. As you can see, we think lack of accountability in a chat community is a serious problem. For the chat room on the net with adults only as its participants, positive ID may not be that important. After all, adults are supposed to be able to take care of themselves. But, when it comes to chat rooms for kids and teens, positive identity (accountability) is critical. We have found that the most effective way to obtain user positive identification is through an on-line credit card transaction. But, positive ID alone is not enough. At Chatters, we go one step further. Each credit card transaction is carefully compared with a "Family Profile" completed by our members during the registration process. We review that data manually too. We think there is no substitute for the human mind's ability to sometimes sense that something doesn't quite "jive" when looking at data provided by other humans. Our registration procedures may be more complicated than those found at "free" chat services. But, then again, our objectives are quite different. If you get stumped or run into problems we will be there to help you along. For a chat community to qualify as " Internet safe" is most difficult. As much as we would like to, we cannot give you 100% assurance. However, we can assure you that at Chatters chat room safety will always be the most important consideration in forming our policies and daily priorities. I invite you to check out each of our chat sites, KidChatters, TeenChatters, and our ever popular adult chat community, ChatCom.com. After you do, please give serious thought to enrolling your family in the Chatters community. We greatly appreciate your consideration. |
